AFS Updates NSW Food Safety Supervisor Course

The Australian Institute of Food Safety (AIFS) Food Safety Supervisor training course has been updated to include the new mandatory reading activity on COVID-19 as required in New South Wales. The NSW Food Authority is requesting that all persons who obtain their Food Safety Supervisor training or their Food Safety Supervisor recertification, read the mandatory reading on COVID-19.

The COVID-19 reading activity covers the latest information on COVID-19, including symptoms, high-risk populations and how it relates to food safety. The reading also discusses creating a COVID-19 Safe Plan and what that entails, including: personal hygiene, employee health, cleaning and sanitising, social distancing measures and record-keeping.

Food Safety Supervisor training is a legal requirement for food businesses in New South Wales. Under the NSW Food Act, every food business must have at least one designated Food Safety Supervisor on staff at all times. Training Food Safety Supervisors can only be done by organisations approved by the NSW Food Authority, such as AIFS.
